Sri Ramakrishna Saradapeeth Kanya Gurukul situated at Jhargram, West Medinipur on the border between West Bengal and Jharkhand is a monastic order exclusively designed for women. A superb modern highway and a train service connect it to Kolkata some 190 km away. The seed for the order was planted directly by Swami Vivekananda into the young mind of Swami Sharvananda when he invited the latter to share his vision of empowerment of women as men's equal. Swami Sharvananda, in early nineteen fifties, founded the ashram where it presently stands. The ashram today also runs a girl's school providing quality education up to higher-secondary level. The school provides, with a slate of finest teachers, an enriched learning environment embracing both the traditional arts and science curricula and the new computer application discipline.
